Description:

Hazen Research is seeking Process Engineers with a strong interest in developing technical information for industrial clients. The job involves working with senior engineers and clients to develop new processes, improving current processes, and providing other technical information for mining, energy, specialty inorganic chemical, and environmental companies. The candidate must have a strong knowledge of inorganic chemistry, an understanding of a range of unit operations used in the industries Hazen serves, and experience using spreadsheets and word processing software. Good oral and written communications skills are necessary. Experience with industrial processes and equipment is a plus.

Experience: 3-10 years with unit operations used in chemical, mining, energy, or environmental processes.

Education: Successful candidates will have a bachelor's degree in chemical, metallurgical, or materials engineering or a related field. Although not a requirement, advanced degrees and a professional engineering license will receive favorable consideration.

Duties: This job involves working in laboratories and operating pilot plants, summarizing and interpreting data generated from this work, and reporting the results to clients. Many projects involve working with others as part of a team under the direction of a senior engineer or project manager. The successful candidate can expect to work on a wide range of projects, covering many different process technologies. The position requires an individual with technical interest and initiative who can plan, coordinate, direct, and execute research programs with minimal supervision. The position also requires an individual who can manage smaller projects and direct the efforts of a group of technicians. Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, irregular working hours and occasional travel can be expected. Pilot plant operations generally involve 12-hour shifts.
